Seeking a dedicated volunteer editor for "Zero Signal," an ambitious post-apocalyptic 20-30 minute short film.

This is a VOLUNTEER role specifically designed for aspiring editors looking to build a professional showreel portfolio.

Filming is tentatively scheduled for September 25th, 2026 over 3–7 days depending on scene length; start date may shift, but 2 weeks' advance notice will be given if so.

Footage will be handed over shortly after the shoot wraps, with an informal turnaround discussed together based on your availability.

The film is a single-character, dialogue-light survival story, meaning the edit will lean heavily on pacing, sound design, and atmosphere to carry the emotional weight — a great opportunity to show off editing craft rather than just cutting dialogue scenes.

As a collaborative, beginner-friendly project, you'll have creative input on pacing, sound design, and colour direction, working closely with me throughout the process rather than editing in isolation.

While unpaid upfront, you will receive full credit and a copy of the finished cut for your portfolio, and a contract for future backend royalties if the project generates revenue.

A contract will also be made regarding intellectual property that you MUST digitally sign. This is to protect all footage being distributed by yourself until it has been released by us. (A soft NDA basically). But after the movie is released you are more than welcome to showcase it.

No prior professional editing experience required, but familiarity with an NLE (Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, etc.) is expected.

Must have access to your own editing software/hardware capable of handling 4K footage.

Comfortable working from raw footage, log/flat colour profiles, and basic colour grading (or willing to learn).

Must be reliable and able to communicate regularly on progress, as this is a remote/asynchronous collaboration.

Experience with sound design is a strong plus, given the film's minimal-dialogue, atmosphere-driven style.

The story centers largely around a single character navigating an altered world, meaning you will have substantial screen time. As a collaborative, beginner-friendly set, we offer a relaxed environment where you can learn, experiment with your performance, and have creative input on your scenes. While unpaid upfront, you will receive a full production cut for your portfolio, complimentary food/drink on filming days, travel reimbursement, and a contract for future backend royalties if the project generates revenue.

No prior acting experience required; open to all backgrounds, looks, and accents. Must be comfortable being the primary focus on camera and learning lines. Must be reliable, enthusiastic, and able to commit to the filming dates. This is for other actors which will get some screen time at the end of Zero Signal - Part One and ALOT of screen time in Part Two. The role is for one of the people the lead character meets.
